DIALOGUE WITH ASKERI ENSARIOGLU

We are establishing our dialogue with Odak İnşaat Group Vice President Asker Ensarioğlu this month in our “Dialogue” interviews, where we host our industry stakeholders and talk about Lighting Design.

Odak İnşaat, which was established in 1979 as the first and pioneering company belonging to Odak Group, has successfully served as the Main Contractor in turnkey projects with its expert staff and organizational skills and has built approximately 1.5 million m2 of construction since its establishment. We talked to his deputy, Asker Ensarioğlu, about lighting design.

1. How does light affect your lifestyle in your life, work, or home?

Since the existence of humanity, light has always been one of the most important concepts for the material and spiritual needs of life. We need a lot of light to live our lives more comfortably. As we use sunlight, which is our greatest source of light, naturally, we can also use it by filtering it with architectural designs in our lives, and gain a better visual richness. To explain the meaning and importance of light in our lives with a very simple example: Starting the day by waking up in cloudy weather on a winter morning or waking up on a spring morning with the sun penetrating directly through the window… Light is the difference between these two emotions, light is the name of the emotion we feel.
In times and places where there is no natural light source, it is very important to detect and use the right light we need. The right light enriches my perspective, increases my visual enjoyment, and makes my life more enjoyable. Along with these issues that I am trying to express, a more comfortable, calm, and productive environment is created with the right lighting suitable for the purpose of my business life.

2. Which of the following is included in your Lighting Design project/investment? Why?

•        Science

•        Technical

•        Art

In our project, we needed Lighting Design both technically and artistically. Lighting Design was necessary in terms of presenting the project as we imagined and technical data suitable for its purpose.

3. Do you think Architectural Lighting Design can add value to the project?

I believe it will add value. Although I am an engineer, I pay a lot of attention to visual aesthetics. While our priority in our projects is the right solution and result in technical terms, we strive to carry out our work with the awareness that the effort that makes that project different is the visual details. For this reason, we are aware of the importance of architectural lighting in the projects I am involved in. I am a person who has personally experienced how the architectural lighting design, which was made with the support you have received in a professional sense, enriches the project in terms of visual and comfort as well as solving the project correctly in technical terms, and thus it is the soul of that project.

4. What do you think the process of working with the Lighting Designer contributed to you as an investor/manager?

So far, I have taken part in many projects both abroad and the country. In our first years, we were progressing in the project calculations and product selections related to the Lighting Installation, with the information we received from the companies that prepared the Electrical Installation Projects we worked with. And we were getting some technical support from the companies that we would supply the lighting fixtures to before the order. At that time, we were not very conscious of getting professional support for Architectural Lighting Design. Also, as I mentioned earlier, we thought that we had already received this support and that we should bring an additional cost to the project in a commercial sense. However, in our Agora Antalya Shopping Mall project, which has a construction area of approximately 266,000 m2, which we have recently concluded as both the Investor and the Contractor, the fact that we received a professional service in Architectural Lighting Design makes the project more visible, valuable and enjoyable, and a much better lighting design without deviating from our budget. When we saw that it could be done, we understood the importance of getting this service better. Of course, it is also very important to work with the right designer. The Architectural Lighting Design service that we have received regarding architectural lighting design, whether in calculations or project and product selection, has made a great contribution to the project. During these studies, we learned something new on behalf of Architectural Lighting Design. For myself, I would like to sincerely say that it has been the most "Illuminating" project I have ever been involved in terms of Architectural Lighting Design.
